When I moved to the East Coast three years ago, my skin was thrown for a loop. The cold temperatures and dry air sucked all the life out of my complexion, and I was left desperately searching for the right equation of products to heal and protect my skin from the brutal weather.
I’d consider my skin type to be combination skin, with both oily and dry patches. It’s a constant battle to keep my face hydrated but not oily and avoid any shine at all costs. Finding this balance was my biggest nightmare in high school, and thank goodness it has subsided in college.
I have also struggled for years with hormonal imbalances affecting my skin, leading to gruesome cystic breakouts so far under the surface that I don’t know what to do other than wait and pray that they will disappear.
My diet plays one of the largest roles in my complexion, and cutting out dairy has been one of the best things to happen to my skin in years. I made this lifestyle change for better digestive health, but my skin is absolutely reaping the benefits.
Although my skin today is nowhere near perfect, these products have served me well and might just become some of your new favorites.
Like I said before, I have struggled with hormonal imbalances for years. It has led to cystic acne deep below my skin, and no matter how hard I have stupidly tried to squeeze these horrible breakouts, nothing gives. The Renéee Rouleau Anti Cyst Treatment is an investment, but if you are like me and have tried absolutely everything, this is worth a shot. I put the smallest drop of this serum when I feel an oncoming cystic breakout, and within a day or two, it almost entirely disappears. This has been hands down my favorite product in the past few months, and I would 100% recommend if you struggle with hormone imbalances and cystic acne.
I received this exfoliator in my FabFitFun box a couple of months ago and I fell in love with it. This tiny tube is my go-to because of how gentile and smoothly it removes dead skin from my face. A plus? It is bright green, so you’ll definitely notice if you didn’t wash all of the product off! I used to be a diehard St. Ives gal, but I will never go back to the chunky, rough formula after using ExfoliKate.
Although this isn’t necessarily categorized as a beauty product, I am including it because of all of the health and beauty benefits that it contains. Collagen’s primary function is to keep your skin looking young and firm while preventing dreaded wrinkles. To make sure I’m keeping myself looking young & hip (ha, jokes), I mix two tablespoons with a splash of water until I make a paste, and then add that to some almond milk in a frother to make golden mylk. It’s great for my skin & gives me an excuse to make a yummy latte.
This product is a holy grail for me, and it’s all thanks to my mom. After suffering from second-degree burns last year, I have been hypersensitive about sun protection, sun spots, and premature wrinkles on my chest and my face. I love this moisturizer because it doesn’t feel oily, and has plenty of sun protection without making me look ghostly. Again, on the pricer side, but definitely worth the hype.
If you know me, you know that I like to boast about having soft hands. I think you can tell a lot about a person when you look at how well they take care of their hands! I am the type of person who always has hand cream in my bag, and this has been what I’ve been carrying with me since I got back from studying abroad. I love the smell, and it keeps my hands feeling hydrated and extra soft.
This has been a staple in my life for a while, but I feel like it deserves some recognition. I have never really liked lip products because they either get stuck in my hair or dry out my lips. This one does neither of those things. Although it’s matte, it feels like I am putting on my favorite Burts Bees chapstick. This lip crayon gives off great color and is the only lip product I’ve ever repurchased after losing it (twice, oops).
I am a huge fan of the Cera Ve line. I use their foaming face cleanser as well as the PM Moisturizer. These products are some of my favorites because of how gentle they are on my skin. They are fragrance and color free, making them simple but effective for people with sensitive skin. I will keep them in my beauty regime for as long as they are around!
Now that I’m 21, I am basically a grandma and have become obsessed with eye cream. This is another FabFitFun find, and I love it. My roommates might give me hell, but talk to me in 20 years when my under eyes are looking young and fresh! I put the tiniest drop of this cream on my finger and swipe it under both eyes before bed each night. Hopefully, it does its job!
